Okay, Okay, I know i said I would post all future ham radio updates on WY9U.net, but the FCC has officially awarding me the call sign WY9U. Anyhow I am stoked and ill keep the ham post on shanekarl limited!
I applied to the FCC for a new amateur radio call sign, WY9U. My application is still being process but I was told it will be granted! I have purchased the wy9u.net and wy9u.org domains and going forward all info about my ham radio usage/dealings will be on WY9U.net. I am working with the owner of WY9U.com and hope to soon be able to host WY9U.net on WY9U.com in the very near future.
Check the site out and I welcome constructive feedback! http://www.wy9u.net
Okay, Okay, I am almost a month late posting this, however on 3/3/2014 I passed the Amateur Extra radio operator exam!
Only a week after the last exam but I passed my General Class amateur radio operator exam!
Hopefully I am about 2 weeks out from Extra!
I signed up for an amateur radio operator technician class at the end of this month. After speaking with the instructor and receiving several study guides, I began the daunting task of learning the material. At first I was completely lost; however, after several days I seems to have picked a majority of the materal up. After a week of studying I was passing the practice exams with a 90+ percentile. Yesterday morning I saw there was an exam session and I decided to see how I would do. Typically being a bad test taker, I had low expectations and just wanted an idea of what the exam would be like… I sat down for the exam and finished it very quickly, I would guess in about 5 minutes. I turned in the exam and they told me it would be a few minutes while they grade the exam. After they graded the exam they informed me that I not only passed, I aced the exam scoring 100%!
Below is a copy of my NVEC cert!
I am now studying for the general exam and this seems to be far more daunting, but hopefully I can pass this exam too.
On a side not I still hope to be able to attend the class at the end of the month! While i did easily pass the exam I have a few questions and have always been a firm believer in the fact that the more knowledge you have the better off you are!
My last comment in this post is this… I have been researching the “perfect” antenna for my house that can cover more or less all bands! That antenna does not seem to exist and all the options make my head hurt! If anyone has any suggestions let me know!
